How the Seasons Influence our Soups
At Portland Kettle, we are committed to using delicious, fresh ingredients in our soups, stews, and casseroles. This means you might just find some foods that you are unfamiliar with in our soups–and you may find soup specials that you can only get during certain times of year.
There are tons of ingredients that get used all-year-round like carrots, onion, garlic, and potatoes. These veggies are both common and have a long shelf life. Other root vegetables have a long shelf life, but they aren’t as common, so we don’t see them on shelves unless they have been grown seasonally.
Here are some fun, seasonal vegetables you might just find in our kettles this fall:
- Celery root
Local and seasonal food not only tastes delicious, it goes great in soup! You see, when we make soup, we use the freshest ingredients from vendors in Portland and surrounding cities. We work to stay environmentally friendly. In turn, locally farmed foods bring vibrant, natural flavors to the food we serve.
