Have you heard people say that hot tea can actually cool you down on a hot day? Well, the same principle works with soup! Here’s what happens:
1. You eat the hot liquid. You can be enjoying a delicious stew or soup or sipping on some hot coffee or tea.
2. The heat of the liquid makes you sweat.
3. Your sweat evaporating off of your skin actually works to cool you down.
This only works during hot and dry weather, because sweat can’t evaporate in extreme humidity.
Therefore, if you were living in the tropics or in humid areas like Florida or Georgia, it’s better to just drink or eat something cooler. Luckily, here in Portland, we usually avoid extreme humidity in the summertime.
Another interesting thing about the cooling factor of hot soups or drinks is: it only works if the weather is hot. If you are in a cool place or it happens to be wintertime outside, the soup or drink will warm you up – not cool you down.
So, let us serve you soup for all seasons. Our soups and stews keep you feeling nourished and comfortable, all year round. You can visit us at our downtown location s on 1344 SW 3rd Avenue here in Portland, Oregon from Monday through Friday.
And, in honor of the cool weather ahead, here’s a quote to keep you warm until you come in: “To feel safe and warm on a cold wet night, all you really need is soup.” – Laurie Colwin
